Where is Stake legal? The regions Stake.com lists and the states Stake.us names

Countries and states

Stake.com lists 47 regions it does not serve, the United States among them. Stake.us names 22 US states in one article and 20 in another. Here are both lists as the operators publish them, the 2 state laws aimed at sweepstakes sites, and what a list can and cannot tell you.

Stake.com: 47 regions

Stake.com window reading Sorry, Stake.com is not available in your region, above a list of 47 regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain
Opened from our capture server in the Netherlands, which is why the window names the Netherlands as the reason. The useful part is the list itself: 47 regions, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, the United States among them.

Stake.com’s block window names 47 regions, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, and the list is the operator’s own statement of where it does not take players. We read it in early September 2026. Grouped by continent, it looks like this:

As Stake.com’s block window listed them in early September 2026. The grouping is ours; the 47 names are the operator’s.
RegionNamed in Stake.com’s list
Europe (19)Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
The Americas (13)United States, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Canada (Ontario only), Mexico, Cuba, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Brazil, Argentina, PBA Province, Colombia, Peru
Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East (10)Australia, Guam, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, North Korea, Israel, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan
Africa (5)DR Congo, Liberia, South Sudan, Sudan, Zimbabwe

Three things follow from the list. Most of the EU is on it, along with the United Kingdom, Australia and Ontario. The United States is on it, which is why the Stake name in the US belongs to a different product. And the list is written as places rather than rules: it can change without a version number, so check it on the day you sign up.

Clause 14.4 of Stake’s terms treats masking your location as a breach, and the block window itself asks visitors to switch a VPN off. The practical meaning is simple: an account opened from a listed region can be closed at the identity check that comes before a withdrawal, a check described on Stake KYC.

Stake.us: 22 states, or 20

Two Stake.us help-centre articles, both read on 9 September 2026: Restricted states on the platform, dated 10 July 2026, and Stake.us - Social Casino, dated 23 July 2026. A dash means the article does not name the state.

Stake.us publishes its state list in 2 places. The article titled Restricted states on the platform, dated 10 July 2026, names 22 states and points at section 2.1 of its terms. The general platform article, dated 23 July 2026, names 20 of the same states and leaves out Indiana and Maine. Both were live on 9 September 2026.

Thirteen days and 2 states apart, the two articles show why a list is only as good as its date. For the widely searched states, the documents read as follows:

Absent from a list means the document does not name the state. It is not a statement that the site operates there, and nothing on this page is legal advice.

The 2 laws aimed at sweepstakes sites

California. Assembly Bill 831 added section 337o to the Penal Code and was chaptered on 11 October 2025 as Chapter 623. Its subdivision (c) defines a coin that can be bought or received as a bonus and used for play, and a second coin that can be exchanged for a prize and is given free through a promotion or with a purchase. A game that runs on both is an online sweepstakes game, and subdivision (a) makes offering one in California unlawful. The description matches the two-coin model Stake.us sets out in its own help centre.

New York. Senate Bill S5935A added section 912 and was signed on 5 December 2025 as Chapter 605. It works from the same idea of a dual-currency system and leaves the details to the state gaming commission.

We opened both texts on the legislatures’ own sites on 8 September 2026. The Montana, New Jersey, Connecticut and Louisiana legislature sites gave no answer that day, so their bills are left unnamed here.

What a list can and cannot tell you

A list says where an operator declines to serve. It does not say what your own state or country allows, which is a question for local law. Treat both lists as the operator’s word on the date shown, check the live page before you sign up, and read the rules of the site you choose.

Players outside the listed regions who want a crypto casino with Stake’s formula will find 20 compared on crypto casinos like Stake. What Stake.us is, coin by coin, is on what is Stake.us, and social casinos on the same model are on sites like Stake.us.

Is Stake legal in the US?
Stake.com lists the United States among the 47 regions it does not serve. In the US the name belongs to Stake.us, a social casino that names 22 states it cannot serve.
Is Stake legal in California?
California is on both Stake.us lists, and Assembly Bill 831, chaptered on 11 October 2025, makes offering online sweepstakes games unlawful in the state. This is a summary of published documents, not legal advice.
Is Stake legal in Texas?
Texas is absent from both Stake.us lists we read. That is what the operator’s documents say on the dates shown; it is not a legal opinion, and the lists can change.
Can I use a VPN for Stake?
Clause 14.4 of Stake’s terms treats masking your location as a breach, and its block window asks visitors to switch a VPN off. This site gives no advice on getting round either.
